Yangju-si, Deokjeong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project Developed as Resident Hub Facility
Yangju City started operating the "Byeolbit Campus," an original downtown university campus located within the "Deokjeong Commercial Hub Community Center," a resident hub facility created as part of the Deokjeong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, on the 25th.
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 26th that it will begin operating the ‘Starlight Campus,’ a downtown university campus located within the ‘Deokjeong Commercial Hub Community Center,’ a resident hub facility established as part of the Deokjeong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, on the 25th.
The ‘Deokjeong Commercial Hub Community Center’ is a newly constructed facility on the site of the former Deokjeong Police Substation at 28 Deokjeong-gil, Yangju City, built as part of the Deokjeong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project. It is a four-story building with a total floor area of 993㎡.
Notably, it is the first facility in the Seoul metropolitan area to create an educational space within a resident hub facility established through an urban regeneration project. Through a business agreement with local institutions such as Yewon Arts University and Seojeong University, the center plans to offer curriculum lectures for university students and operate a downtown university campus. The Starlight Campus aims to revitalize and develop the declining downtown commercial district by attracting young people to the area.
Additionally, the city is preparing to operate lifelong learning lectures for local residents and various age groups within the Starlight Campus in cooperation with the Lifelong Learning Center.
Since early this year, the city has formed a public-private-academic consultative body with local universities (Yewon Arts University, Seojeong University) and the Deokjeong Village Management Social Cooperative. Through an MOU, they have completed preliminary preparations for the stable establishment of the Starlight Campus and plan to collaborate toward a new model of coexistence and cooperation through smooth operation of the consultative body.
