Police Do Not Prosecute Nam Hyun-hee for Violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act
Report to Kwon Ik-wi in November last year
Non-prosecution due to 'Not a Crime' Reason
Former national fencing representative Nam Hyun-hee (43) was not prosecuted by the police in a case where she was booked on charges of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act after receiving expensive luxury gifts from her former fianc? Jeon Cheong-jo (28).
On the 19th, the Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that Nam, who was booked earlier this month on charges of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, was not prosecuted with the decision of 'no crime.'

'No crime' is a disposition made when the facts of the case meet the elements of a crime, but the crime is not legally established due to reasons such as illegality or lack of responsibility.
The police reportedly judged that Nam's acceptance of money and gifts did not violate the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, considering that the two were in a romantic relationship. The Act explicitly states that gifts provided through private transactions such as between lovers or family members are exceptionally exempt from punishment.
Earlier, Kim Min-seok, a member of the Seoul Gangseo District Council, reported Nam to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in November last year on suspicion of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. This was because Nam allegedly received expensive luxury gifts from Jeon during her tenure as a director of the Korea Sports Council. The Commission forwarded the case to the police in January.

Meanwhile, the police also decided not to prosecute Nam last month on charges of false accusation filed by Councilor Kim. Nam had sued Kim last year for defamation and other charges after Kim raised suspicions against her, and Kim counter-sued Nam.
