Ulsan Ranks Highest Nationwide for Mandatory Vaccinations Among New Students
Which city had the highest rate of elementary students receiving vaccinations?
It has been found that Ulsan has the highest completion rate for mandatory vaccinations among elementary school entrants in the nation.
According to the results of the vaccination verification project for elementary and middle school entrants conducted by Ulsan City this year, the completion rate for elementary students in Ulsan was 93.7%, ranking first among the 17 metropolitan and provincial regions. For middle school students, the rate was 78.3%, ranking third nationwide, as announced on the 14th.
This result marks an increase of 1.6 percentage points and 7.7 percentage points, respectively, compared to 2023, when the rates were 92.1% for elementary and 70.6% for middle school students.
For elementary students, the completion rate for four essential vaccines?diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP), polio (IPV), measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), and Japanese encephalitis?was 93.7%, the highest in the country.
For middle school students, the completion rate for three essential vaccines?tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap), Japanese encephalitis, and human papillomavirus (HPV) for girls?was 78.3%, ranking third nationwide.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "Maintaining a high vaccination rate is important for preventing the spread of infectious diseases during elementary and middle school years," and added, "If there are any missed vaccinations, it is important to consult with medical professionals and complete the vaccination as soon as possible."
The official also mentioned, "For those born in 2011, this year is the last year to receive financial support for Tdap, Japanese encephalitis, and HPV vaccines for girls until December 31," and encouraged completion of the vaccinations.

The nationwide completion rate for mandatory vaccinations among elementary school entrants was 92.3%, and for middle school entrants, it was 76.4%. This represents an increase of 1.3 percentage points and 9.2 percentage points, respectively, compared to the 2023 results of 91.0% and 67.2%.
