Yeongdeok County Secures 10.3 Billion KRW in National Funding for Expansion of Yeonghae Sewage Treatment Facility
Expansion from 5,400 to 6,500 Tons/Day to Improve Marine and Living Environments
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has successfully secured 10.3 billion KRW in national funding after actively persuading the Ministry of Environment and higher authorities of the necessity to expand the Yeonghae Sewage Treatment Facility to effectively handle wastewater generated in parts of Yeonghae-myeon and Byeonggok-myeon.
As the number of tourists has steadily increased in the area, leading to an anticipated rise in wastewater generation, the Yeongdeok County Water Management Office has proactively established and pursued a plan to expand the Yeonghae Sewage Treatment Facility's daily capacity from 5,400 tons to 6,500 tons.
As a result, with the secured national funding, the sewage treatment capacity for Yeonghae-myeon and Byeonggok-myeon will be significantly increased. This is expected to help protect the surrounding marine environment and greatly contribute to improving the living environment for residents by reducing odors caused by wastewater.
In addition, considering the expected further increase in wastewater due to plans for the development of the Goraebul tourist site, Yeongdeok County is actively responding to changes in wastewater volume by pursuing changes to the "Basic Plan for Sewerage Maintenance" to adjust the expansion volume as needed.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "We are doing our utmost to secure national funding by analyzing project feasibility and reviewing all necessary requirements until sewage treatment facilities are secured throughout the entire county. With proactive planning and active administration, we will smoothly carry out the facility expansion project with national support to contribute to improving the health and living conditions of our residents."
