When Are Delivery Orders Most Crowded During the Chuseok Holiday?...Popular Menus
29% Increase in Orders the Day After Chuseok
The day with the highest number of delivery orders during this year’s five-day Chuseok holiday period is expected to be the last day.
According to the ‘Baemin Trend 2024 Fall·Winter Edition’ released on the 14th by Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok (Baemin), last year’s Chuseok holiday saw a significant increase in orders the day after Chuseok itself. Baemin Trend is a report that predicts dining-out industry trends for the second half of the year based on order data.
Orders on the day after last year’s Chuseok increased by 29% compared to the previous week’s orders. This is interpreted as many stores closing during the early part of the holiday and on Chuseok day itself, then resuming normal operations toward the end of the holiday period. The average spending per order during last year’s Chuseok holiday increased by 16.4% compared to the previous week.
A Baemin official said, “There is a consumer tendency to take it easy at the beginning and end of a long holiday, so delivery orders are expected to concentrate on the first and last days of the holiday this year as well,” adding, “During the holiday period, more people than usual, such as family and relatives, gather in one place and order delivery food, so the average spending per order also appears to be higher than usual.”
One of the popular menu items frequently ordered on the last day of the holiday is juk (rice porridge). According to the delivery app Yogiyo, orders in the lunchbox and juk category during last year’s Seollal (Lunar New Year) holiday increased by more than approximately 125% compared to 2021. In the case of last year’s Seollal, juk orders on the last day of the holiday increased by about 68% compared to the first day. People who felt burdened by the high-calorie traditional holiday foods sought juk to soothe their upset stomachs.
As the number of people spending the holidays alone increases, lunchboxes are also expected to gain popularity. Among Yogiyo’s delivery orders, the quick commerce service ‘Yopyeon Convenience Store’ saw sales of holiday lunchboxes increase 42-fold during last year’s Chuseok holiday compared to the same year’s Seollal.

Among popular menu items during this period, warm Americano coffee stands out. On Baemin, orders for warm Americano increased by 25.8% in September compared to August last year. This is because the full onset of autumn weather leads to an increase in orders for warm foods.
