Seocho District Hosts Juniper Tree Art Contest at Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub
Jazz and Pop Music Busking Events Held in Nearby Parks
Seocho District in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will host events such as the "Juniper Tree Art Contest" and "Busking" at the "Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub," a legal district near Seocho Station.
The district is holding the "Seocho Station Juniper Tree Themed Art Contest" until October 7 to commemorate and promote the value of the juniper tree, which serves as the symbol of the Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub. This juniper tree is an ancient tree that has stood for 886 years and has been designated as a protected tree by the City of Seoul since 1968.
The contest is divided into the following categories: poetry (free form, excluding classical Chinese poetry), photography (image files of at least 2000×3000 pixels), and drawing (children in elementary school or younger, and general participants from middle school age and above). Participants are free to depict the Seocho Station juniper tree in their works. Poems, photos, or drawings that evoke memories or stories related to the Seocho Station juniper tree are also accepted.
Any Seocho District resident or local worker can participate, and each individual may submit one entry per category. Those wishing to apply must submit the application form, available on the Seocho District Office website, to the designated email address, in person, or by mail by October 7. However, the original work must be submitted in person or by mail.
The district plans to select a total of 64 winners, with 16 winners in each of the four categories, through expert judging. Results will be announced on the Seocho District website at the end of October, and winners will be notified individually.
Awards for each category are as follows: Grand Prize (1 winner, 500,000 KRW), Excellence Award (2 winners, 300,000 KRW each), Merit Award (3 winners, 200,000 KRW each), and Juniper Tree Award (10 winners, 100,000 KRW each). The winning works will also be exhibited in spaces within the Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub and at the district office.
Nearby parks will host the "Traveling Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub Busking" events. Starting with Jang-an Children's Park on September 11, additional performances will be held during lunchtime on the fourth Wednesday of October (October 23) and the second Wednesday of November (November 13). Each session will feature about an hour of diverse jazz and popular music performances. The busking events will feature "Tune Around" and "August Brothers," youth artist groups active in Seocho District.
Seocho District is carrying out a landscape improvement project to designate the legal district area from Banpo-daero (Seocho Station to Nue Bridge) to Seocho-daero (former Defense Security Command site to Seocho Station to Gyodae Station) as the "Asia-Pacific Judicial Justice Hub," creating a cultural space that embodies the values and themes of judicial justice.
