Teenagers Assault 70-Year-Old Man Over Complaint About Loud TV Sound at Billiard Hall
70s Warned Teen Occupying Billiard Hall TV
Diagnosed with 8 Weeks Recovery Due to Assault
An incident occurred where a teenage student threw a punch at a man in his 70s who was asking for quiet in a billiard hall.
On the 9th, JTBC's 'Case Manager' reported on an assault incident that took place on the 25th of last month at a billiard hall in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. According to the 70-year-old male informant, Mr. A, there was a TV installed in the billiard hall. Usually, the TV played billiard matches on mute, but on the day of the incident, a group of teenagers changed the channel to a music broadcast, turned up the volume, and danced.
Mr. A asked the group several times to "please not be noisy," but they did not listen. Eventually, when Mr. A approached one of the students to take the remote control, a scuffle broke out between the two.
After the scuffle, Mr. A turned off the TV by pressing the power button himself, but the student immediately turned it back on, saying, "You can just turn it on with the remote." Seeing this, Mr. A tapped the student's back to stop him, and the student raised his fist and pushed Mr. A's shoulder and chest.
Mr. A fell backward and was diagnosed with an eight-week recovery period due to a spinal fracture and other injuries. Mr. A said, "When the police arrived, the student claimed mutual assault, so the case was registered as such. It's absurd," but added, "Since he is a high school student, I want to settle this. The student's father contacted me saying, 'We are sorry. What would you like us to do?' but I have never settled a case before, so I don't know what to do."
