'Hesitating' in front of a patrol car... Unlicensed driver caught by police intuition
Unlicensed Driving from Nonsan, Chungnam to Daejeon
A man in his 50s who drove without a license in broad daylight in downtown Daejeon and engaged in a chase with the police was caught by the authorities.
On the 9th, the Daejeon Western Police Station announced that they recently arrested a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on the spot on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license).
On July 28 at 2:03 p.m., Mr. A was driving his car and entered Doma Samgeori in Seo-gu, Daejeon, when he was spotted by police officers on patrol. The police became suspicious of the vehicle, which was repeatedly stopping and starting in front of the patrol car, and upon checking the license plate, they found that the vehicle owner’s license had been canceled.
As the police approached the suspected unlicensed vehicle to verify, they asked Mr. A to present his driver's license. However, Mr. A ignored the request, suddenly pressed the accelerator, and began to flee. At that moment, a police officer quickly ran to the patrol car, got in, and pursued Mr. A’s vehicle.
Mr. A dangerously fled by violating traffic signals and abruptly changing lanes between cars. During this process, it was reported that he drove at speeds exceeding 100 km/h in an area with a speed limit of 50 km/h. Eventually, to prevent greater harm, the police blocked the fleeing vehicle’s path with the patrol car and forced it to stop.
After confirming that the driver was the same person as the vehicle owner, Mr. A was arrested for violating the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license). The investigation revealed that Mr. A had driven approximately 25 km from Nonsan-si, Chungnam, to Daejeon without a license. It was also found that he had his license canceled in 2022 due to more than two instances of drunk driving.
Netizens who learned of the incident expressed various reactions such as, "Thank you to the police officers who always work hard," "Drunk drivers are murderers on the road," and "They should be severely punished."
