Changwon Council of the National Unification Advisory Council Seeks Strategies for North Korea's Changes and National Unity Amid Rapidly Changing Unification Environment
The National Unification Advisory Council Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam held its regular meeting for the third quarter of 2024 on the 9th at the City Hall Citizen Hall, with more than 150 participants including Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, Changwon City Council Chairman Son Tae-hwa, and council members.

The council members engaged in heated discussions on "Changes in North Korea and ways to unite public opinion in response to rapidly changing unification circumstances," and offered diverse opinions on activities and projects that should be promoted at the regional council level to implement the Unification Doctrine.
Changwon City Council Chairman Jung Youngsik said in his opening remarks, "Through the North Korean defector mentoring project, which the National Unification Advisory Council officially launched this year, I ask all council members to join forces to create a warmer atmosphere for embracing North Korean defectors."
Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, "In order to achieve unification led by the people of both Koreas, which is the core of the August 15 Unification Doctrine, the roles and responsibilities of the council members here are even more important," adding, "We will make multifaceted efforts, including policy support for the stable settlement of North Korean defectors, in line with the unification strategies of provincial and municipal governments."
Meanwhile, the National Unification Advisory Council is a constitutional body chaired by the President, with the mayor serving as the acting head, and performs the roles of gathering opinions on unification and advising the President.
