Comprehensive Maintenance for Repeatedly Damaged Areas Including Yeondeok-ri
Hamyang County in Gyeongnam Province announced on the 5th that the 'Gachon District in Byeonggok-myeon' was finally selected for the Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Project for Flood and Storm-prone Areas, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and has secured a new project budget of 43.3 billion KRW.
The selected area includes Gachon, Songpyeong, Hyuchon, and Deokpyeong villages in Byeonggok-myeon, where repeated incidents of flooding, landslides, river embankment collapses, and damage to small-scale facilities occur during heavy rainfall. It is a region with a high risk of casualties, as residents often evacuate during severe weather warnings.
County Governor Jin Byungyoung is visiting Byeonggok-myeon Gachon district, which was selected for the comprehensive flood control and living area maintenance project, to inspect the project.

In March of this year, the county applied for the Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Project, and after presentations and review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the project was included in the government's 2025 budget and officially confirmed.
In particular, County Governor Jin visited both the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Economy and Finance after applying for the project, emphasizing the necessity and details of the disaster prevention project to ensure the selection of the proposal.
With this selection, the Gachon District will undergo comprehensive disaster prevention works from 2025 to 2029, including the maintenance of 2.8 km of rivers, reconstruction of six bridges, and improvement of four landslide-prone areas. To expedite the project, the county plans to allocate its own budget this year to carry out the preliminary design work.
Governor Jin stated, "With the selection of this project, we expect to create a safer village environment against natural disasters," and added, "We will continue to conduct thorough investigations and implement disaster prevention projects to protect the lives and property of Hamyang residents."
