Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a Gender Equality Week commemorative event on the 3rd in collaboration with the Gwanak-gu Women's Association Federation to mark Gender Equality Week (September 1?7).
The slogan for this commemorative event was "A Gender-Equal Society Where We Work and Care Together," designated by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and “A Safe and Happy Gender-Equal Gwanak-gu,” proposed by the Gwanak-gu Gender Equality Network.
The district incorporated the ideology of achieving practical gender equality in all areas?▲politics ▲economy ▲society ▲culture?through harmonious development between men and women into the slogan.
About 200 people participated in the event, including residents, Ryu Seo-seon, president of the Women's Association Federation, its members, and Park Jun-hee, mayor of Gwanak-gu.
On this day, the district expressed gratitude by awarding the mayor’s commendation to nine individuals who contributed to improving women's status and realizing gender equality.
In particular, the sand animation conveying the meaning of gender equality and a meaningful lecture titled “Everyone Is Special Without Discrimination” by Go Myung-hwan, a broadcaster and bestselling author, received much empathy and positive response from many residents.
Additionally, at the event, related parties including ▲Safe Guardians ▲Illegal Filming Citizen Surveillance Team ▲Women's Association Federation ▲Gwanak Police Station gathered to conduct a campaign urging active interest and participation from residents to create a safe society free from violence against women.
In one corner of the venue, excellent self-produced products from ‘Bomm Bom,’ a cooperative workshop supporting the independence of women victims of violence, were also sold.
To conclude the event, a performance was held where everyone chanted the slogan (“A Safe and Happy Gender-Equal Gwanak-gu”) together, providing a meaningful time for all to reflect on the value of gender equality and commemorate Gender Equality Week.
Meanwhile, as a result of steadily promoting gender equality policies that eliminate everyday inconveniences and ensure safety, convenient participation and communication, and consideration, the district received the Police Commissioner’s Commendation at the 8th Korea Crime Prevention Awards last year.
