Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Receives 'Prime Minister' Commendation for Gender Impact Assessment
Selected as the Only 'Excellent Institution' Among All Autonomous Districts Nationwide
Effective Collaboration Network Established with Related Organizations
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, was the only autonomous district nationwide to be selected as an excellent institution in the 2024 Gender Impact Assessment and received a commendation from the Prime Minister.

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Park Byeong-gyu) announced on the 3rd that it was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2024 Gender Impact Assessment’ hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation as the only autonomous district nationwide.
Gwangsan-gu built a collaborative network with the Gwangju Gender Impact Assessment Center of the Gwangju Women and Family Foundation, the Gwangsan-gu Gender Impact Assessment Committee, and the Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group to strengthen the substance of the gender impact assessment.
Through organic cooperation, they enhanced education, publicity, and monitoring related to the gender impact assessment, increased the expertise of evaluations, and induced practical policy improvements.
In addition, they selected excellent cases of policy improvement through gender impact assessment and published a collection of best practices, posting it on the local administrative welfare centers, departments, the council, and Gwangsan-gu’s official website e-book. Gwangsan-gu explained that due to these high achievements in the gender impact assessment, it was the only autonomous district nationwide to receive the Prime Minister’s Commendation.
Park Byeong-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “To spread a culture of gender equality, Gwangsan-gu conducts professional education annually to strengthen employee capabilities in gender impact assessment projects, including gender sensitivity education for public officials and one-on-one consulting education,” adding, “We will do our best to realize a gender-equal society where we work and care together.”

The gender impact assessment is a system operated to systematically and comprehensively evaluate the impact of government policies on gender and the causes of gender discrimination, and to reasonably improve them with the aim of realizing practical gender equality.
