Busan Office of Education Develops Nation's First Neulbom School Curriculum
Four Types Including Standard Type A Developed
Learning-Type Neulbom Textbooks Also Distributed
In March, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, the only one in the country to fully implement the Neulbom School program, developed a systematic curriculum for the distinctive operation of Neulbom School.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo) announced on the 2nd that it will distribute the ‘Busan-type Neulbom School Curriculum,’ developed for the first time in Korea, along with ‘Learning-type Neulbom Program Textbooks’ to support it, to schools in the field.
This measure aims to promote high-quality operation of Neulbom School by establishing a systematic Busan-type Neulbom School framework.
The Busan Office of Education has developed four types of Neulbom School curricula: ▲Type A (Standard Neulbom by the Office of Education), ▲Type B (School-Specialized Neulbom), ▲Type C (Public Institution-Linked Neulbom), and ▲Type D (Private Sector-Linked Neulbom).
In May, the Office of Education formed a research and development team of 12 members, including Professor Park Chaehyung of Busan National University of Education, education researchers, and teachers, to develop the curriculum. The team established guidelines covering the direction of the Busan-type Neulbom School, key tasks, curriculum themes, quality management methods, and step-by-step operation and evaluation criteria.
The Busan Office of Education also developed textbooks to support the three areas of the Type A curriculum: ‘Hangul Play,’ ‘Play Math,’ and ‘Play English.’
The materials include 40-session learning plans for each area, teaching and learning guides, and activity sheets, all designed to support customized Neulbom School operations in the field.
Types B to D can be operated according to the provided guidelines. Types A and B will have their quality managed directly by the Office of Education and the schools, while Types C and D will be utilized after satisfaction surveys and suitability evaluations are conducted at the school level.
The Office of Education plans to implement the developed Neulbom School curriculum in the field starting from the second semester. It will also provide ongoing consulting to help schools smoothly apply and operate the curriculum.
