Gang Arrested for Distributing 'Prepaid SIM' to Voice Phishing Organization
The police have arrested a group that opened prepaid SIM cards under foreign names and distributed them to a voice phishing organization.
On the 30th, the Jungbu Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested four suspects and detained one without arrest on charges including unauthorized use of others' information under the Telecommunications Business Act and forgery of private documents under the Criminal Act.
From April 18 to May 23, they purchased copies of passports under foreign names from passport brokers for 40,000 to 50,000 won each, forged SIM card subscription application forms at mobile phone stores, and illegally opened 381 prepaid SIM cards. They then sold the prepaid SIM cards to voice phishing organizations for 150,000 to 200,000 won each.

A police official explained, "Passport brokers collect and sell numerous passports under foreign names through hacking and other means, and it has been confirmed that buyers of prepaid SIM cards used them for voice phishing. The investigation is ongoing."
