Cheonan City to Implement Four-Day Workweek for Civil Servants with Children Aged 5 or Younger Starting in September
Upgraded Performance Bonus Level for Those Under 40, Married Within 5 Years, and With Two or More Children
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province has introduced groundbreaking measures to encourage childbirth, including a four-day workweek for public officials with young children.
On the 29th, Park Sangdon, Mayor of Cheonan, held a press conference at the Cheonan City Hall briefing room and announced plans for childbirth encouragement policies for public officials and their expansion to the private sector.
Starting in September, the city will implement a four-day workweek for public officials who are caring for children aged five or younger.
About 270 employees are eligible. They can either work from home one day a week while maintaining a 40-hour workweek or work 10 hours a day for four days and take one day off. The four-day workweek can also be combined with two hours of childcare time.
Additionally, to encourage earlier marriage and multiple childbirths among unmarried public officials, comprehensive incentives will be provided to those who are under 40, married within the last five years, and have two or more children.
The city will increase the special welfare points awarded for the birth of a second child from 500,000 won to 2 million won and grant the highest grade (S grade) for performance bonuses, offering substantial financial benefits. Furthermore, priority will be given for overseas training, long-term training for level 6 officials, increased bonus points for performance evaluations, and transfers to desired departments.
To create a better environment for parents and children, the city is also considering introducing special leave and giving priority access to recreational facilities, with plans to expand these measures to city-funded organizations.
Efforts to expand low birthrate policies to the private sector will also continue.
For citizens who have lived in the city for more than six months, maternity transportation allowances will be increased from 300,000 won to 1 million won, and postpartum care support will rise from 500,000 won to 1 million won.
Birth congratulatory payments, previously 300,000 won for the first child, 500,000 won for the second, and 1 million won for the third or more, will be significantly increased to 1 million won for the first and second child, and 10 million won for the third or more.
