LG Electronics to Unveil AI Home Hub 'ThinQ On' at IFA 2024
Industry's First AI Home with Generative AI Built into Hub
24/7 Connection of Home Appliances and IoT Devices
LG Electronics announced on the 29th that it will unveil the AI home hub 'LG ThinQ ON,' equipped with generative artificial intelligence (AI) for the first time in the home appliance industry, at 'IFA 2024,' Europe's largest home appliance exhibition, held in Berlin, Germany, starting next month on the 6th.
ThinQ ON, the hub of LG AI Home, is a core device that keeps home appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected 24/7. Equipped with generative AI, ThinQ ON continuously monitors the home environment, appliances, and devices, and interacts with customers to assess situations and optimally control various devices.

Serving as the brain of AI Home, LG ThinQ ON is equipped with generative AI that allows it to converse with customers in everyday language. This contrasts with past voice recognition speakers that only provided simple, short answers or executed predefined commands. When a customer asks ThinQ ON, "Hi LG, what's my schedule today?" it checks the customer's schedule and responds, "You have a tennis lesson scheduled at 10 a.m." If the customer asks about the travel time to the lesson location, it checks real-time traffic conditions and informs the estimated time, suggesting, "You should leave early," and can even call a taxi if requested. After exercising, it sets the washing machine to the 'functional clothing' course according to conditions specified by the customer. It naturally supports continuous conversations by understanding context like chatting with a friend and easily answers questions about product information, usage tips, and troubleshooting.
LG ThinQ ON also offers broad connectivity. The product has received Matter certification, an open smart home interoperability standard. Through the Matter standard, which supports various connection methods such as Wi-Fi and Thread, it easily connects domestic and international home appliances and IoT devices.
Additionally, LG Electronics integrated the extensive open ecosystem and IoT device connectivity of 'Athom,' a smart home platform company it acquired in July, into ThinQ ON. Athom currently connects over 50,000 types of home appliances and IoT devices. Athom's Homy app store hosts about 1,000 applications that connect and control products and services from various global brands such as Philips and Aqara.
ThinQ ON is equipped with LG Electronics' self-developed high-performance AI chip 'DQ-X,' which supports connections with various smart home devices, high-performance computing functions, and continuous upgrades.
