On the 28th, SK Innovation announced that it will build 'Happy Dream Libraries' at 15 rural children's centers nationwide in collaboration with Save the Children, so that educationally marginalized children can dream of happiness through books.
Since May, SK Innovation and Save the Children have been recruiting rural children's centers without libraries or with outdated facilities to participate in the library project for two months. After document and on-site evaluations, 15 centers were finally selected, including Donghae Children's Center in Nam-gu, Pohang, Gyeongbuk, Saebom Children's Center in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and Yegreen Children's Center in Dalseong-gun, Daegu.
The Happy Dream Libraries will be furnished with desks, chairs, bookshelves, storage cabinets, floor mats, and lighting will be replaced to create an environment conducive to reading for children. Reading culture programs will be operated, and books necessary for the children will be carefully selected and provided. Additionally, reading instructors will be dispatched to help children develop an interest in reading, and experiential activities such as visits to large local libraries are planned.
As part of this project, Kyobo Bookstore will run the 'Children's Book Donation Project' for one month starting on the 28th. Donors can order books directly from a list selected by Save the Children's ambassador, KAIST professor Jeong Jae-seung, and Kyobo Bookstore, and Save the Children will deliver the books to the local children's centers.
Meanwhile, the funds needed for this project were raised through the '1% Happiness Sharing Fund,' which was created by collecting 1% of the basic salaries of SK Innovation group employees.
