Yongin City to Operate Tourism-Type DRT 'Tabayong' Starting End of Next Month
Demand-Responsive Bus Called via App at Bus Stops
Connecting Major Hubs Including Minsokchon, Giheung, and Sanggal Stations
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it has named the demand-responsive transport (DRT) service connecting the Korean Folk Village and nearby major subway stations 'Tabayong' and will begin operations at the end of next month.
The city explained that the brand name was decided by combining 'Tabayo,' which encourages bus riding, and 'Joayong,' Yongin City's representative character familiar to citizens. The city also added that 'Tabayong' was the most preferred name in a tourism-type DRT brand preference survey conducted among citizens from the 8th to the 22nd of last month.
With the brand name finalized, the city plans to start a six-month pilot operation of the tourism-type DRT from the end of next month. During the pilot period, the city will deploy 15-seat mid-sized buses?three on weekdays and four on weekends?to operate connecting major transportation hubs such as the Korean Folk Village, Giheung Station, and Sanggal Station, which are popular tourist destinations in the area.
The bus service is available to anyone, not just for tourism purposes. Users can call a vehicle by selecting the number of passengers and destination via a mobile app at their boarding stop. The fare is 1,450 KRW (adult rate), the same as Gyeonggi Province city buses, payable by transportation card. Transfer discounts apply when transferring to other transportation modes such as buses or subways.
In particular, the Yongin City Industrial Promotion Agency will conduct a 'rail-linked DRT pilot project' connecting Dongcheon Station on the Shinbundang Line from Singal-dong, Giheung-gu, for about a month from October 10 to November 14 to introduce a stable DRT operation system ahead of the 'Tabayong' service.
