Doctoral Students Lim Taek and Jang Sui: Dark Tourism Storytelling

Graduate students from the Department of Tourism Management at Pukyong National University have recently published their theses in internationally recognized SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index) journals.

Doctoral candidates Lin Ze and Zhang Siyu from the Graduate School of Tourism Management at Pukyong National University (supervised by Professor Yang Wiju) have each published papers in prominent international journals in the fields of social sciences and tourism, namely 'SAGE Open' and the 'Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology'.

Lin Ze, as the first author, published the paper 'Storytelling in Dark Tourism: The Role of Flow Experience and National Identity' in 'SAGE Open'.

This paper explores the relationships among the attributes of storytelling, behavioral intentions, flow experience, and national identity, revealing the causal relationship between dark tourism and storytelling.

Through statistical analysis of survey data from Chinese tourists who have visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall in China, the study found that dark tourism storytelling positively influences tourists' behavioral intentions and verified the mediating effect of flow experience and the moderating effect of national community consciousness.

Additionally, Zhang Siyu published the paper 'Forecasting international tourist arrivals in South Korea: a deep learning approach' as the first author in the journal.

In this paper, he developed and presented a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based forecasting model that integrates variables such as exchange rates, oil prices, and stock market data to predict the number of international tourists visiting South Korea, significantly improving the predictive accuracy of the LSTM network. This methodology is evaluated as providing a model for accurate demand forecasting in tourism management.

Professor Yang Wiju (Tourism Management) at Pukyong National University stated, "This is the result of creative and in-depth research that has been recognized for integrating national identity, big data, and econometrics into the field of tourism management. I hope that students will continue to present high-level research outcomes and become active contributors in the field of tourism studies in the future."
