Giant Trendy Lobster Floating on Seokchon Lake... Songpa-gu X Lotte Mulsan 'Lobster Wonderland' Public Exhibition
September 6-29: World-renowned Pop Art Master Philip Colbert Art Balloon Exhibition at Seokchon Lake
Songpa-gu Collaborates with Lotte World Mall 10th Anniversary... Partnering to Create an Art Landmark Connecting Rubber Duck and Pok?mon
This September, a giant lobster will appear at Seokchon Lake in Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok).
The enormous lobster crossing the sea to Korea is an art balloon work by Philip Colbert, a world-renowned British pop artist and self-proclaimed ‘Lobster Artist.’ From September 6 to 29, the east shore of Seokchon Lake will transform into a public art exhibition space called ‘Lobster Wonderland.’
‘Lobster Wonderland’ is a public art project jointly presented by Songpa-gu and Lotte Property & Development to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lotte World Mall’s opening. The highlight of the exhibition is a bright red lobster measuring 16 meters high and 30.5 meters wide on the blue water surface. The cheerful lobster, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and sitting on a tube, will bring pleasant joy to visitors.
The relationship between the district and the company, aimed at making Seokchon Lake a cultural and artistic landmark, has also reached its 10th year. Since 2014, starting with the Rubber Duck, they have floated art balloon works by world-class artists such as Supermoon, Sweet Swan, Holiday Korea, and Luna Project on the water surface, providing residents with fun and joy in their daily lives.
This time, the ‘Lobster’ is a custom-made work designed specifically for the unique exhibition space of Seokchon Lake and is being presented for the first time. To allow visitors to enjoy the sculpture even late at night, night lighting will be operated from 6 PM to 10 PM during the exhibition period.
Meanwhile, the lobster, which the artist considers his second self, will be variably displayed as large balloons, sculptures, and photo zones around the outdoor plaza of Lotte World Mall. Under the autumn sunlight, the colorful, vividly hued exhibits will each showcase their unique charm.
The district is hosting various cultural and artistic events such as performances, exhibitions, and festivals at Seokchon Lake. In May, the exhibition ‘Running People,’ held in collaboration with a local art museum at Jamsil Hosugyo Bridge, received positive responses by presenting everyday scenes interpreted by a world-renowned illustrator. In October, the district’s first standalone art museum, the ‘Seokchon Lake Art Gallery (tentative name),’ is scheduled to open.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Following the Pok?mon that appeared at the lake last spring, a giant lobster resembling autumn leaves will visit this fall. You can look forward to various cultural events unfolding at Seokchon Lake. We hope you enjoy a beautiful lakeside art walk with your loved ones.”
