Dongdaemun-gu Introduces 'Smart Mirror' Touch Screen Device in Full-Length Mirror Form to Prevent Dementia
Use of ICT-Based Smart Care Device 'Smart Mirror' in Dementia Prevention Program
Maintaining Physical Balance, Improving Short-Term Memory... Available for All Residents to Experience
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that it will introduce the ICT-based smart care device ‘Smart Mirror’ into its dementia prevention program through a Seoul city public contest project.
The ‘Smart Mirror’ is a full-length mirror-type touch screen device composed of a walking pad equipped with a sensor camera that can recognize movements and a pressure sensor. Users can easily follow various movements such as stretching while looking at their reflection in the mirror.
In old age, poor posture can become fixed, leading to physical deformities or joint problems. The Smart Mirror program helps maintain physical balance by analyzing the user’s posture and providing feedback.
The district will operate the ‘Smart Mirror Cognitive Exercise Class’ a total of 16 times from September 2 to November at the Cognitive Health Center located on the first floor of the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center. The program is conducted under the guidance of a professional occupational therapist, allowing participants to receive exercise therapy regardless of space or weather conditions.
Additionally, cognitive activity programs using foot pedals can improve attention, motor coordination, perception, and short-term memory.
Any Dongdaemun-gu resident interested in dementia prevention can contact the Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center to apply for a ‘Smart Mirror’ experience.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We are exploring various dementia prevention measures using smart devices. We hope that the newly introduced Smart Mirror will greatly help the healthy aging of our residents, and we will do our best to operate the program.”
