Asan City Provides Additional Cooling Cost Support to Senior Centers Amid Prolonged Heatwave
2 Billion Won Reserve Fund Allocated
On the 23rd, Asan City in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will provide additional support for cooling costs at senior community centers due to the ongoing heatwave.
The city has allocated a reserve fund of 200 million won, as the burden of cooling expenses at senior centers has increased with the heatwave lasting for about 15 days recently.
This additional support for cooling costs, separate from the existing subsidies, aims to reduce the electricity bill burden for senior center users and protect their health from heat-related illnesses during the extreme heat.
The city is also considering replacing outdated cooling equipment that has exceeded its service life and providing additional cooling devices to senior centers that do not yet have them.
A city official stated, "We are concerned about the health of our seniors due to the recent severe heatwave," and added, "We will take the lead in managing the health of local seniors and prevent heat-related illnesses by providing additional support for cooling costs."
