The convenience of restroom use for visitors to Hongdae Red Road, a representative attraction of Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su), is being further enhanced.
There have been numerous complaints about the lack of restrooms on Hongdae Red Road, which is visited by 52% of foreigners as well as domestic visitors to Seoul. The need for restroom installation was significant enough to be continuously discussed at the Hongdae Culture, Arts, and Tourism Special Zone Win-Win Committee.
Accordingly, Mapo-gu remodeled the existing restrooms at the Red Road Power Plant located at the entrance of Red Road R1 and has been operating them as open restrooms since April. The restrooms at the Seogyo Art Experiment Center in R3 have also been opened for 24-hour visitor use since the end of July.
Additionally, on August 21, a 24-hour open restroom was opened at the Tourist Information Center in the R2 section, which is close to Hongdae Entrance Station and has a high floating population.
The restrooms are equipped with Western-style toilets, washbasins, and CCTV to prepare for emergency situations.
Both the interior and exterior are decorated with LED lights and the Hongdae Red Road characters ‘Kkaebi’ and ‘Kkaesun’ to create a bright and safe atmosphere.
Furthermore, in September, another open restroom is scheduled to open at the Tourist Information Center to be established in the R6 section of Hongdae Red Road.
Mapo-gu expects that the installation of open restrooms will not only enhance visitor convenience but also promote the use of Tourist Information Centers, thereby contributing to tourism revitalization.
In addition, Mapo-gu is promoting a restroom location guidance service via QR codes so that any visitor can easily find open restrooms.
