Yangsan City Holds 'Practical Training for National Infrastructure Biochemical Terrorism Response' During Eulji Exercise
Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, conducted a comprehensive training exercise to prepare for biochemical terrorism at critical national infrastructure facilities at the Ungsang Water Purification Plant at 3:00 PM on the 20th as part of the 2024 Eulji Exercise.

View original imageThis training, organized by the city, simulated an early-stage war scenario in which an enemy special operations unit contaminates tap water and destroys critical infrastructure at the Ungsang Water Purification Plant using biochemical weapons. The exercise involved over 200 participants from 21 organizations, including the military, police, fire department, Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, Korea Water Resources Corporation, various related agencies, and volunteer groups.
The training included biochemical terror reconnaissance and decontamination, arrest of the enemy special operations unit, rescue and treatment of casualties, fire suppression, explosive ordnance disposal, and emergency facility restoration. Not only those participating in the exercise but also citizens observing the event were able to learn emergency response procedures.
In addition, military equipment such as armored vehicles and reconnaissance vehicles, as well as firefighting equipment, were displayed at the training site, and a gas mask experience was offered, attracting great interest from civil defense members and citizens who came to observe the exercise.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "Through active participation and cooperation with various related organizations and groups, as seen in today's Eulji Exercise practical training, we can clarify the roles and responsibilities between institutions and further strengthen the safety net of our local community."
