Pohang City Launches Full-Scale Mobile Medical Services for Vulnerable Groups
Home Visit Medical Service, Core of 'Elderly Medical and Care Integrated Support Pilot Project'
Mayor Lee Kangduk: "Public-Private Cooperation Essential to Provide Medical Services for the Vulnerable"
On the 20th, Pohang City held a business agreement ceremony for the "Visiting Medical Service" to support medical care for vulnerable groups, together with the Pohang Medical Association, Naejibeseo Clinic, Pohang Southern and Northern Branches of the National Health Insurance Service, and the Pohang Community Security Council at the city hall's medium-sized conference room.
The Visiting Medical Service is a core service of the "Elderly Integrated Medical and Care Support Pilot Project," which was selected in a public contest hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last May. Through this service, a medical team visits the homes of individuals who have difficulty visiting medical institutions to provide medical care.
On this day, the participating organizations agreed to cooperate in actively identifying individuals in need of home visits, providing visiting medical services to those identified, and partially supporting out-of-pocket expenses (such as transportation costs) for recipients of basic livelihood security and the near-poor.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "As we enter a super-aged society, the importance of care services is growing even more," and added, "We will strive for seamless cooperation between the public and private sectors so that vulnerable groups who have difficulty visiting medical institutions due to mobility issues can receive adequate medical services."
Pohang City was selected for the "Elderly Integrated Medical and Care Support Pilot Project" and is establishing a community-based care system to ensure a safe and comfortable old age by providing services such as Visiting Medical Service, community linkage for discharged patients, improvement of residential environments, hospital accompaniment service, emergency care, and mobility support.
