Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor, "Hydrogen Can Bridge Regional Energy Gaps"
Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor Company, said, "Hydrogen is not simply a solution for clean energy, but it also has the power to resolve energy disparities between regions through energy security."
The Hydrogen Council, chaired by President Jang, posted a brief interview containing this message on social networking services (SNS) on the 16th. The Hydrogen Council is a global private consultative body directly or indirectly involved with the hydrogen industry worldwide, including Hyundai Motor Company. President Jang was appointed as the successor to Yoshinori Kanehana, co-chairman whose term ended in June this year.
In modern society, energy is closely linked to the security of nations and their citizens. Without a stable supply of energy, not only the safety of a country but also the lives of individuals can be at risk. National power can vary depending on geographical and geopolitical factors as well as the presence or absence of resources. When asked about the reason he became passionate about the hydrogen industry, President Jang cited energy security in this context.
Regarding the background of his initial interest in the hydrogen business, he answered that he has consistently believed in hydrogen's potential. He said, "Innovation often happens beneath the surface for a long time before being accepted by the public. Hyundai Motor Company has been developing hydrogen technology for 30 years and has recently gained the strength to lead the market, accelerating its progress."
To aspiring individuals who may work in the hydrogen industry, he advised, "The hydrogen industry is definitely a new frontier, and while it is undeniable that there are challenges, it is precisely these challenges that make this field more interesting and the sense of accomplishment greater when successful." He added, "Consider whether you will follow the path others have already taken or make history in a new frontier for humanity."
