US Initial Jobless Claims Decrease by 7,000... Below Expectations
The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 15th (local time) that the number of new unemployment benefit claims for the week of August 4?10 was 227,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week. This figure also fell short of the expert forecast of 235,000 compiled by Dow Jones.
The number of continuing unemployment benefit claims, filed by those claiming benefits for two weeks or more, was 1,864,000 for the week of July 28?August 3, down by 7,000 from the previous week.
Amid growing concerns that the U.S. economy may be cooling faster than expected due to the unexpectedly weak July employment data, the market is closely monitoring trends in the labor market.
Earlier, on the 2nd, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that nonfarm payrolls increased by 114,000 in July compared to the previous month, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.3%.
