[Briefing] Changwon Special Mayor Hong Nam-pyo Attends 77th Ungcheon Sports Festival Commemorating August 15 Liberation Day
Ungcheon-dong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 77th Ungcheon Sports Festival to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Liberation, organized by the Ungcheon Sports Association, at the Gomnae Kindergarten playground on the 15th.

View original imageCelebrating its 77th anniversary this year, the Ungcheon Sports Festival began in 1939 during the Japanese colonial period as a friendship soccer tournament in the Ungcheon area. It has since become a festival that carries on the spirit of Liberation and serves as a venue for communication and unity among the residents of Ungcheon-dong.
The event was attended by over 500 people, including Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, National Assembly member Lee Jongwook, provincial and city council members, and many local residents. The festivities began with preliminary soccer matches and celebratory performances, followed by various events such as volleyball and Yutnori, fostering harmony and friendship among the residents.
Additionally, everyone enjoyed a joyful time together through activities such as a singing contest, a drawing competition, and various hands-on experience booths.
Ungcheon Sports Association President Lee Sangmin said, "I sincerely thank all the residents for their interest and affection, which have allowed the Ungcheon Sports Festival, celebrating the spirit of August 15 Liberation and the unity of the community, to continue for 77 years."
Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, "I hope that all the residents participating in the Ungcheon Sports Festival will encourage each other and achieve the outcomes they desire, regardless of victory or defeat, making this a festival of unity. I will do my utmost to ensure that Ungcheon-dong, where history and the future coexist, grows into a logistics hub in Northeast Asia and becomes a vibrant region where industry and residents' lives are in harmony."
