Car Speeds 170km on Tongyeong Highway at Midnight, Collides with Motorcycle ... 2 Dead or Injured
A car speeding well above the legal limit crashed into a motorcycle, resulting in one fatality and one person seriously injured.
According to the Tongyeong Police Station in South Gyeongsang Province, at around 12:28 a.m. on the 14th, a passenger car driven by a man in his 40s, identified as A, collided with a motorcycle ahead of it on National Route 14, Namhaean-daero, in Tongyeong.
As a result of the accident, the motorcycle driver, a man in his 20s identified as B, was seriously injured, and another passenger in his 20s, identified as C, lost his life.
An analysis of the event data recorder (EDR) revealed that A's car was traveling at approximately 170 km/h at the time of the accident, far exceeding the legal speed limit of 70 km/h for this road.
The car driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time, and all motorcycle riders were reportedly wearing helmets.
During police questioning, A stated that he "did not see the motorcycle on the dark road."
The police have booked the car driver on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling and plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
