Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam, Attends 8.15 Special Service: "May Christianity's Good Influence Be Shared"
Governor Park Wansu of Gyeongnam Province attended the 8.15 Special Assembly commemorating the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day, held at Changwon Indoor Gymnasium on the 11th.
In his greeting, Governor Park stated, "Christianity has always accompanied and greatly contributed to the development of our country," adding, "In particular, during the Japanese colonial period, it played a crucial role in the Self-Strengthening Movement and it is a great source of pride for Christians that they resisted to the very end for independence."

View original imageHe continued, "This 8.15 Special Assembly will be a valuable occasion where the good influence of clergy and believers delivers hope and courage to the residents," and added, "I hope Christianity will play a pivotal role in spreading a warm sense of community throughout the region."
He further remarked, "Gyeongnam Province will strive even harder to lay the foundation for a warmer community and for delivering happiness to our residents," and said, "I hope the good influence of Christianity will always accompany the provincial administration as we walk the path of welfare, companionship, and hope."

View original imageThe 8.15 Special Assembly is held every year on August 15th to commemorate Liberation Day, organized and hosted by the Gyeongnam Christian Council and the Gyeongnam Holy City Movement Headquarters.
This year, the assembly was attended by Governor Park, Changwon Special Mayor Hong Nampyo, Provincial Assembly Chair Choi Hakbeom, Superintendent of Education Park Jonghun, National Assembly members Choi Hyungdu, Lee Jonguk, Heo Seongmu, and around 2,500 residents including church members from 18 cities and counties in the province.
A concert with the praise ministry group "WeLove" is being held at the 2024 August 15 Special Revival Meeting hosted by the Gyeongnam Christian Federation.

The assembly proceeded in the following order: Avad Scholarship Award Ceremony, Oath of the Warriors' Declaration, delivery of support funds for pioneering churches in honor of the late Deaconess Lee Suim of Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital, welcoming address, congratulatory remarks, and introduction of guests.
Afterwards, a concert with the praise ministry group 'Welove' and the 8.15 Special Worship Service took place, concluding with the singing of the national anthem and three cheers for Korean independence.
Gyeongnam Province announced that this day, where the values of welfare and companionship?key directions of the latter half of the provincial administration?and the Christian values of sharing and love came together, will serve as a foundation for cooperation with the Christian community to usher in an era of happiness that residents can truly feel.
