"United in the Mission of National Safety"
Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, stated on the 9th, “Rather than the undeserved honor of being the head of public security, I felt the heavy responsibility as the representative of the police entrusted with the safety of the people,” adding, “There are regrets and remorse. At the police commissioner’s retirement ceremony that afternoon, Commissioner Yoon said, “Looking back, the past two years have flashed by like a revolving lantern,” and continued, “Complex issues and controversies such as the democratic control and neutrality debate surrounding the establishment of the Police Bureau, the Itaewon and Osong disasters, and the occurrence of abnormal motive crimes have continued relentlessly. There were also times of instability amid ongoing resignation rumors.”
Commissioner Yoon emphasized, “From economic murder crimes such as malicious fraud, gambling that destroys the lives of ordinary people, to the war against drugs, which are like deadly viruses, I approached these with an unwavering determination,” and added, “We responded consistently and on principle against chronic illegal acts such as the Cargo Solidarity strike and illegal activities at construction sites, fostering a culture where compliance is beneficial.”
Commissioner Yoon stated, “Safety is the highest priority that cannot be compared to any other value. It is the first line of defense and a barometer of the people’s lives and happiness,” and said, “Although each person’s position and circumstances differ, it is a key issue where everyone must come together and gather wisdom for coexistence. In the mission of public safety, we must unite honestly and humbly.”
