On the 6th, Gyeonggi Province signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding for Nurturing Youth and Young Adult Climate Ambassadors’ with VANK at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office in Suwon.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province stated at the signing ceremony, "VANK and Gyeonggi Province share the commonality of doing what the central government does not. VANK generates ideas and takes action on many tasks that the government cannot handle," adding, "For the sake of the Republic of Korea, the central government should proceed in a certain way, but it is failing and moving backward. As the largest province in the country, Gyeonggi Province is calling for a proper direction."
He continued, "(To this end) we have been proactive and leading in fiscal policy and social economy, but the central government is passive and regressive in the most representative climate crisis response. Gyeonggi Province has already declared Gyeonggi RE100, appointed climate ambassadors, and is participating internationally in various ways," and added, "All our citizens are stakeholders in the climate crisis, and going forward, Gyeonggi Province, as a leader in climate crisis response, will join forces with global climate ambassadors."
The agreement involves VANK recruiting youth and young adult climate ambassadors to develop content related to climate crisis response policies and internationally promote Gyeonggi Province’s climate crisis response policies through social networking services (SNS), while Gyeonggi Province supports online and offline climate change education and the development of promotional content for climate crisis response policies.
VANK, a private organization promoting digital diplomats and global Korean ambassadors, has been recruiting ‘Global Climate Crisis Response Ambassadors’ since World Environment Day (June 5) this year to promote climate crisis response activities internationally through SNS and other channels.
According to the agreement, Gyeonggi Province and VANK will mutually cooperate in ▲ developing content on the seriousness of the climate crisis and climate crisis response policies ▲ providing online and offline climate change education and spreading climate action practices among youth and young adults ▲ internationally promoting Gyeonggi Province’s climate crisis response policies using social media.
