Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) and the Senior Medical Sharing Foundation (Chairman Kim Sung-hwan) have signed a business agreement to support low-income seniors with knee artificial joint surgery costs.
This agreement was promoted to help the elderly who need surgery but cannot receive treatment due to economic reasons. It aims to support a healthy daily life by enabling timely treatment of knee osteoarthritis, a representative geriatric disease.
According to the agreement, Gwangjin-gu will identify and recommend eligible candidates. The foundation will work to secure funding for surgery cost support. During the two-year agreement period, they plan to lead the project effectively through organic mutual cooperation.
The target beneficiaries are basic livelihood security recipients or near-poverty class aged 60 or older residing in Gwangjin-gu. Surgery costs will be supported up to 1.2 million KRW per knee, with a maximum of 2.4 million KRW. For diseases meeting the health insurance coverage criteria for 'artificial joint replacement surgery,' examination fees, medical fees, and surgery costs can be reimbursed on an actual expense basis.
The signing ceremony held on the 2nd was attended by Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, and Kim Sung-hwan, Chairman of the Senior Medical Sharing Foundation. Chairman Kim Sung-hwan said, “I hope this special connection with Gwangjin-gu will be a good opportunity for many seniors to regain their health.”
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu stated, “As the average age rises due to population aging, health becomes more important than anything else. We will do our best to systematically support senior medical welfare by joining forces with the foundation.”
