Led by Mayor Na Dongyeon and public officials, city employees are taking the initiative in practicing carbon neutrality and setting an example for citizens, with approximately 1,300 employees currently participating.
During this intensive operation period, the city plans to visit apartment complexes and large supermarkets to accept on-site applications, making it easier for citizens to participate in the Carbon Neutrality Point Program. In addition, small promotional gifts will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to those who sign up on-site.
At the Environment Day event held last June at the Culture and Arts Grand Theater, the city promoted the program by distributing companion plants, and received a great response from citizens by accepting direct applications at the Citizen Thrifty Market held at the Waterpark Park.
The Carbon Neutrality Point Program (Energy) is a national greenhouse gas reduction initiative that awards carbon points based on the reduction rate of electricity, tap water, and city gas usage in households and commercial facilities to help respond to the climate crisis.
Anyone who is the head of a household or a household member, as well as actual users of commercial facilities, can participate. Applications can be submitted online through the Carbon Neutrality Point (Energy Sector) website or the Yangsan Love Card app banner, or in person at local administrative welfare centers.
Points are awarded twice a year (June and December) based on the reduction rate compared to the average energy (electricity, tap water, city gas) usage over the previous two years for each household or commercial facility, with a maximum of 25,000 KRW awarded. New participants will receive an incentive of 2,000 KRW per household until the budget is exhausted.
The city will continue these promotional activities and seek various ways to encourage more citizens to participate. In particular, public institutions, companies, banks, social organizations, and schools are actively joining the initiative, greatly contributing to the spread of the Carbon Neutrality Point Program. The city plans to continue cooperating so that even more organizations and groups can participate in the future.
Lee Dooyoung, Director of Climate and Environment, said, "Through participation in the Carbon Neutrality Point Program, citizens can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, receive incentives, and practice a green lifestyle that saves the planet through small daily actions. We hope for the interest and active participation of many citizens."
