Hanwha Ocean Volunteer Corps Hosts Festival Wishing for Recovery of Children with Leukemia and Pediatric Cancer
230 Invited to the Saesaengmyeong Sea Festival in Geoje, Gyeongnam
KRW 1.16 Billion Supported for 866 People Over 30 Years
Hanwha Ocean employees organized a small festival to wish for the recovery of children suffering from leukemia and childhood cancer, as well as their families.
Hanwha Ocean announced on the 5th that its in-house volunteer group, "Saessak-ui Sorihoe," invited children with leukemia and childhood cancer and their families to Geoje for a festival.
On June 3rd and 4th, Saessak-ui Sorihoe held the "New Life Sea Festival," a two-day, one-night event attended by about 230 people, including children with leukemia and their families from across the country, as well as members of the Korea Association for Children with Leukemia and Cancer.
Participants toured major attractions in Geoje, such as Jangsa Island, and enjoyed a variety of programs, including recreation and talent shows, filling the event with laughter and joy.
Founded in 1990 by 11 Hanwha Ocean employees, Saessak-ui Sorihoe has held the "New Life Sea Festival" every year since its inception, except during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past 34 years, the group has provided approximately 1.16 billion KRW in medical expenses to 866 children.
For this event, Hanwha Ocean and its labor union supported the festival by providing vehicles and gifts for participants. Dabonghoe, a volunteer group made up of the spouses of Hanwha Ocean employees, also assisted with meal service during the event.
The Hanwha Ocean Volunteer Corps, which consists of 43 organizations and over 3,200 members?including Saessak-ui Sorihoe, Chamsarang Welfare Association, Nanum Technology Volunteer Group, Jabulsan Volunteer Group, Tongyeong Love Volunteer Group, and the Hanwha Ocean Volunteer Group?practices love for neighbors. Made up of employees who participate voluntarily, the Hanwha Ocean Volunteer Corps has been spreading love for more than 20 to 30 years.

These volunteer groups regularly organize outings for local seniors, improve living conditions for vulnerable groups and the elderly living alone, conduct environmental clean-up activities at major tourist sites, hold rice cake soup sharing events during holidays, and provide donations to welfare facilities for people with disabilities. Through these diverse activities, they strive to practice neighborly love and create a better society.
