5090 Screenings Scheduled for the Upcoming Weekend
"Acts Disrupting Fair Competition Order"
The Special Committee for Fair Environment Creation under the Korean Film Council urged the distributor Universal Pictures on the 2nd to prevent irregular releases. This statement was made regarding the paid preview screenings of the movie 'Superbad 4' held on the 20th and 21st of last month.
Universal Pictures screened the film 5,090 times (screening share 12.1%) in theaters over the weekend just days before the official release date. The seats secured amounted to 768,009 (seat occupancy rate 13.5%). More than 144 other films screened during this period were effectively deprived of screening opportunities and seats.

The Special Committee for Fair Environment Creation expressed concern, stating, "This has disrupted the fair order of the film screening market," and "It has shaken the foundation of agreements and standard contracts established for the normal and fair operation of the Korean film market." They also warned, "We urge that acts disturbing the fair competitive order of the film screening and distribution market not be repeated."
