"Going to Emergency Medicine for Atonement"... Appeal Against Suspended Sentence for Medical Student in 'Illegal Filming' Case
A medical student who was prosecuted for secretly filming women's bodies has appealed the first trial verdict that sentenced him to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 2nd, the lawyer of Kim (24), who was indicted on charges of filming using a camera under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, submitted an appeal to the Seoul Northern District Court on the 24th of last month.
Kim was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension at the first trial held on the 18th of last month. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures and was restricted from working in child and disabled-related facilities for 3 years.
Kim is accused of secretly filming the bodies of two women, including a girlfriend he dated, 16 times from September 26, 2022, to April 2023. His crime was uncovered when his girlfriend discovered over 100 nude photos of other women stored on his mobile phone.

Kim admitted all charges and evidence during the trial on June 13. In his final statement, he pleaded for leniency, saying, "I chose emergency medicine, a specialty avoided by doctors, and want to live atoning for my mistakes."
