'Good Seocho Coin' Wins 'Grand Prize' at Manifesto Competition
Seocho Community Efforts Recognized for Solving Social Issues
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 2nd that it won the Grand Prize for "Good Seocho Coin Operation" at the '2024 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition' held on the 31st at Inje University in Gimhae, Gyeongnam.
Good Seocho Coin is a type of "good point" given for practicing carbon neutrality, volunteering, and other good deeds. It is a culmination of Seocho-type rewarding technology that applies blockchain to share good values. Residents earn Seocho Coins through good actions such as collecting paper cups, using tumblers, and reporting disaster and safety prevention, and are rewarded by using them like cash at various district facilities.
At this competition, the social value realization of Seocho Coin was highly evaluated. The project was comprehensively rated excellent in suitability, creativity, communication, scalability, and tangibility. In particular, the project was recognized for its novelty and potential for expansion to other local governments because it uses blockchain technology to share positive influence among resident communities in various fields such as environment, welfare, and culture.
The district is also upgrading Seocho Coin by expanding the earning categories and usage locations, and improving app usability. This year, the earning categories were expanded from 14 to 20, and the usage locations were significantly increased to 52.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "I believe the virtuous function of Seocho Coin is that our Seocho community solves various social problems together," and added, "We will continue to practice good values with close neighbors and colleagues through Seocho Coin to create a warm Seocho community."
