These departments are organized into four main areas: employment, housing/education, welfare/culture, and communication/participation. The group focuses on discovering support projects that can be tangibly felt by young people.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the achievements of youth support projects in the first half of the year, shared successful cases, and encouraged the accomplishments of each department. They also discussed challenges faced during policy implementation and shared improvement measures based on field experiences from each department.
Successful cases highlighted included: ▲The region-led youth employment project, which supports companies with labor and welfare costs to create high-quality jobs for young people in the employment sector; ▲Housing and rent support projects and the construction of Youth Stepping Stone Housing for youth housing stability in the housing sector; ▲Building a talent infrastructure for the steel and next-generation secondary battery industries, which are key industries for the city, in the education sector; ▲Operation of a youth counseling center and a new initiative providing breakfast for 1,000 won in the welfare sector; ▲Commemorative events for Youth Day and the Youth Start-up Festival in the culture sector; and ▲The Youth Policy Activation Forum and the Youth Avenue Pohang Project in the communication/participation sector.
Through this meeting, the city discussed ways to enhance interdepartmental cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to close collaboration. Pohang plans to establish a basic plan for a youth-friendly city tailored to the characteristics of local youth and set the direction for youth policy implementation in 2025.
Additionally, a third meeting will be held at the end of the year to report the final achievements of each department's youth support projects and share new policy ideas for the coming year, with ongoing discussions on sustainable development measures to create a better environment for young people.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of Employment and Economy, said, "Through this meeting, we were able to review the achievements of youth support projects so far and clearly identify future tasks," adding, "We will continue to strive to provide practical support that young people can truly feel."
