Jeon Ingeon Appointed as First Director of Daegu Kansong Art Museum... Opening Commemorated with 'National Treasures and Treasured Relics' Exhibition
Daegu City has completed the registration of the Daegu Kansong Art Museum, which was completed last April, as a "public art museum" in accordance with the "Museum and Art Gallery Promotion Act," and on the 1st appointed Jeon Ingeon (53), the director of Kansong Art Museum, as the first director of the Daegu Kansong Art Museum.
This appointment was made by the Kansong Art and Cultural Heritage Foundation (Chairman Jeon Youngwoo), the institution entrusted with the operation of the Daegu Kansong Art Museum, with the approval of Daegu Mayor Hong Joonpyo.
Director Jeon Ingeon majored in history at Lewis & Clark College in the United States and in educational administration at the Graduate School of Korea University. He is currently serving as the director of Kansong Art Museum in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, an executive committee member of the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University, and the CEO of Kansong Metaverse Museum, among other roles.
In particular, Director Jeon Ingeon is recognized for bringing about significant changes in the perception of classical art and cultural heritage by forming a passionate fandom culture for Kansong Art Museum through creative approaches that go beyond traditional frameworks, utilizing digital technologies such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse.
Meanwhile, Daegu Kansong Art Museum officially registered as a Type 1 public art museum on July 24, after meeting the requirements of having more than 100 works in its collection, at least one curator, and exhibition and storage spaces of at least 100 square meters, and passing the review of the "Museum and Art Gallery Promotion Committee." It is the sixth registered art museum in Daegu City.
Daegu Kansong Art Museum is scheduled to hold its opening ceremony on September 2, and is making final preparations to successfully host the "National Treasures and Treasures Exhibition" from September 3 to December 1 as a commemorative event.
Jeon Ingeon, director of Daegu Kansong Art Museum, stated, "The registration of Daegu Kansong Art Museum will serve as a symbolic milestone in the history of Kansong Art Museum, which dates back to 1938," and expressed his ambition by saying, "I will do my best to establish the museum as a complex cultural space where people can experience Kansong's spirit of cultural patriotism through diverse and innovative programs."
