Military Expects This Year's Chuseok Apple 'Hongro' Harvest to Be at Average Level
Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 31st that it has recently launched on-site technical guidance to prevent sunburn damage to Jangsu apples, a local specialty, as the recent heatwave continues.
According to the county, the fruit set and fruit enlargement of the Hongro apple for this year's Chuseok are progressing smoothly, and the occurrence of anthracnose has decreased compared to last year, so a harvest at the average level is expected.
On the 31st, Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk, took field technical guidance measures to prevent sunburn damage as the recent heatwave continued, aiming for stable production of apples, a local specialty.

Recent weather forecasts predict that a high-temperature environment will persist after heavy rain, raising concerns about sunburn damage to the fruit, so pre- and post-management technical guidance was provided. Sunburn damage occurs when exposed to high temperatures or sunlight.
To prevent damage in advance, it is recommended to properly arrange branches, irrigate, and spray calcium carbonate and quicklime. When installing shade nets, it is advised to place them in a way that reduces direct sunlight from the west and south.
Damaged fruit surfaces become necrotic and lose commercial value, and diseases such as anthracnose can spread, so it is emphasized that thinning out the affected fruit quickly is necessary to prevent spread to other fruits.
