Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon to Oversee Summer Heatwave Preparedness... Intensive Inspections at Construction Sites and Beaches
Inspection of Busan Lotte Tower Construction Site and Haeundae Beach on the Afternoon of the 31st
Drone Patrol Pilot Operation and Compliance with Heat Illness Prevention Safety Guidelines
On the afternoon of the 31st, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon will visit the Busan Lotte Tower construction site and Haeundae Beach to directly inspect the city's preparedness for the summer heatwave.
This on-site inspection is part of an all-out response to protect citizens' safety from the summer heat, as heatwave warnings have been issued for all areas of Busan since July 29, with perceived temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius.
The city has established comprehensive measures under the basic policy of "Building a Safe Busan from Heatwaves" to prepare for heatwaves, a natural disaster in summer, and has been in intensive response mode since May 20.
On May 27, during the weekly policy meeting chaired by Mayor Park, heads of city departments, district and county officials, and related agencies discussed practical implementation plans for this year's summer heatwave countermeasures.
In particular, the city is operating a joint heatwave situation room with relevant departments to ensure swift management and minimize blind spots in heatwave damage. Emergency safety and reassurance services are being provided to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled, and safety monitoring is being conducted through welfare support staff. In addition, a "Heat-Related Illness Emergency Room Surveillance System" is in operation to quickly identify cases of heat-related illnesses.
At 2:50 p.m. on this day, Mayor Park will visit the Busan Lotte Tower construction site to directly check on the implementation of comprehensive summer heatwave measures, including whether safety guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers are being followed. He will also be briefed on the progress of the construction and urge for thorough management to ensure there are no further delays in the Busan Lotte Tower project.
Since construction site workers are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses due to prolonged outdoor work during heatwaves, Mayor Park will carefully check the availability of rest facilities, cooling equipment (such as ice packs), drinking water, and the implementation of heat illness prevention guidelines (water, shade, rest). He will also ask workers and site managers to pay extra attention to preventing on-site accidents caused by the heatwave.
Prior to this, at 1:40 p.m., he will visit Haeundae Beach. With the heatwave and summer vacation season in full swing, a surge in visitors is expected. Therefore, he will focus on inspecting the safety management of the beach and checking whether cleaning and facility management workers who work outdoors are following heat illness prevention safety guidelines.
He also plans to inspect the pilot operation of beach safety management using drone surveillance and the installation of jellyfish barriers to prevent recent jellyfish sting incidents.
Additionally, to ensure public safety, Mayor Park will personally meet and encourage the 119 water rescue team, the coast guard, and on-site workers who are working under the heat at the Haeundae Beach administrative service center to ensure a pleasant beach experience for visitors.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon emphasized, "Last year's heatwave casualties were mainly among men in their 50s and 60s and outdoor workers. I urge all workplaces to prioritize safety above all else and do their utmost to prevent casualties from the heatwave. I also hope that on-site workers will strictly adhere to heat illness prevention safety guidelines." He added, "As the heatwave and summer vacation season are now in full swing and a surge in visitors is expected, I ask all beach and vacation spot management agencies to pay special attention to visitor safety. Our city will continue to do everything possible to prepare for the summer heatwave, including thoroughly implementing protection measures for vulnerable groups."
