Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held an emergency policy meeting on the morning of the 29th attended by key executives and decided to exclude the consideration of erecting statues of former presidents who have passed away.
At the policy meeting held that day, it was stated that "the feasibility study for the Harmony Street Creation Project has not yet been conducted, but some have been spreading the incorrect information that the erection of statues of former presidents in certain areas has been confirmed, which is increasing social conflict." Therefore, it was announced that the erection of statues of former presidents will not be considered in the Harmony Street Creation Project.
Accordingly, the district plans to focus solely on the Harmony Street Creation Project, which integrates and harmonizes generations, regions, and genders, excluding the erection of statues of former presidents.
The background for promoting Harmony Street is based on the judgment that Mapo-gu is a region visited by diverse groups of all ages both domestically and internationally, making it the most suitable area for inclusion and harmony.
To this end, the district plans to conduct a feasibility study in August to explore various implementation plans for creating Harmony Street, such as a "tower symbolizing harmony," plaques or sculptures containing quotes or proverbs related to harmony, and will finalize the appropriate project location and direction by reflecting residents' surveys and expert opinions.
