Seoul City Council Elects Isukja as Chair of the Steering Committee

The Seoul Metropolitan Council elected Councilor Lee Suk-ja (People Power Party, Seocho 2) as the Chairperson of the Operations Committee for the second half of the 11th term at the 325th extraordinary session held on the 29th.
Re-elected Councilor Lee Suk-ja previously served as the Chairperson of the Planning and Economy Committee, overseeing Seoul's finances and economy during the first half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council. She also has diverse and extensive legislative experience and expertise, having served as the Vice Chairperson of the 9th Planning and Economy Committee and as a member of the Urban Planning and Management Committee.
Newly appointed Chairperson Lee Suk-ja stated, "The Operations Committee determines the direction and schedule of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, manages the council's affairs, and supports the active legislative activities of the 112 council members as both an assistant and manager." She added, "The committee also oversees the Mayor’s Secretariat, the Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs’ Office, and the Council Secretariat, playing a key role not only in checking and monitoring Seoul’s administration but also in communication and cooperation, which makes me feel a heavy sense of responsibility."
Chairperson Lee continued, "High inflation, high interest rates, and rapid population decline continue to cause difficulties for the public," emphasizing, "To resolve the pressing issues facing our society, the Seoul Metropolitan Council must actively reflect the voices from the field in legislation and policy."
Furthermore, Chairperson Lee expressed her commitment, saying, "As Chairperson of the Operations Committee, I will do my utmost to expand support and welfare that council members can feel, strengthen the Council Secretariat’s support functions for legislative activities, promote the introduction of a ‘one policy aide per member’ system to enhance the council’s status and authority, and devote myself to institutional improvements." She also stated her intention to "actively work towards revitalizing research groups and regularly holding sports competitions for a communicative and harmonious ‘One Team Seoul Metropolitan Council.’"
