Candidate for Commissioner General of Police Jo Ji-ho explained on the 29th regarding allegations of preferential treatment in his eldest son's military service, saying, "I did not know my son went to serve as a police conscript," and added, "He is not a child who consults with me."

On the same day, during the National Assembly confirmation hearing, Jo responded to a question from Yoon Geon-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "When I was in charge of the police conscript division, my child did not take the exam."
Jo's eldest son served as a police conscript in the 1st Mobile Unit of the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency in December 2013. At that time, Jo was serving as the head of the Life Safety Division at the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency.
Yoon criticized that the police conscript position was so popular at the time, with a competition rate exceeding 20 to 1, earning it the nickname "police conscript exam," and argued that it was a moral issue that Jo's son served in the same regional police agency where Jo worked. Yoon also pointed out that although Jo's son was assigned to the Mobile Unit, he was later transferred to the headquarters unit for administrative, cooking, and driving duties.

Jo responded, "Assignments are made based on the scores received at the Nonsan training center and the individual's preferences.
