On the 29th (Korean time), Choi Kyung-ju shot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round at the Senior Open (total prize money $2.85 million) held at the Carnoustie Golf Links (par 72) in Carnoustie, Scotland, UK, recording 1 eagle, 4 birdies, and 4 bogeys to finish with a total score of 10-under-par 278 and claim the championship.
Having held a solo lead at 8-under-par 208 through the first three rounds, Choi maintained his top position on the final day with a total of 10-under-par 278 to secure the victory.
The Senior Open is a major tournament on both the PGA Tour Champions in the United States and the European Senior Tour, known as the Legends Tour. With this win, Choi became the first Korean player to conquer major tournaments on both the American and European senior tours.
Additionally, Choi made history once again as a Korean by adding this to his first PGA Tour win, his record for most wins (8), and his first PGA Tour Champions victory.
Choi had previously won the Players Championship, known as the 'fifth major' on the PGA Tour, and finished third at the Masters, but had never won a major tournament. This Senior Open victory finally fulfilled his dream of becoming a major champion.
