WYSIWYG Studio Participates in Seoul Light DDP, the Largest Media Art Event
The comprehensive media content production group WYSIWYG Studio (hereinafter WYSIWYG) announced on the 29th that it will showcase content works with delicate aesthetics and unique rhythm on the entire exterior wall of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (hereinafter DDP) during 'Seoul Light DDP 2024 Autumn' (hereinafter Seoul Light DDP), held to welcome the autumn season.
‘Seoul Light DDP 2024 Autumn,’ unveiled in August, celebrates the 10th anniversary of DDP’s opening by commemorating the past and imagining the future records of DDP through ‘Future Log,’ which reinterprets the existing works of painters into media art. The event focuses on the works and life of artist Kim Whanki, who expressed Korean tradition in a modern way.
WYSIWYG, together with Professor Park Je-sung of Seoul National University College of Fine Arts, a well-known media artist, and the media art label VERSEDAY, will present a large-scale video content utilizing the life journey and artistic philosophy of Kim Whanki.
This Seoul Light DDP exhibition features nine major works by Kim Whanki, including the ‘Jeonmyeonjeomhwa’ (Full Surface Point Painting) by the pioneering abstract artist Kim Whanki, and ‘Eodiseo Mueosi Doeeo Dasi Mannarya’ (Where Do We Meet Again as Something Else), titled after Kim Kwang-seop’s poem ‘In the Evening,’ which expresses Kim Whanki’s affection and longing for his homeland and friends during his time in New York, all reborn as media art.
Previously, WYSIWYG participated in immersive media art projects that combine art and technology, such as the ‘David Hockney Immersive’ exhibition at the art immersive content exhibition hall Lightroom Seoul, and ‘The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks,’ featuring Hollywood star Tom Hanks. Additionally, based on its proven technological capabilities and content planning skills demonstrated over many years, WYSIWYG has continued its new media business through large-scale media art projects such as ‘THE ORIGIN’ at Seoul National University’s Cultural Arts Center in 2023, and artist collaboration-based large-scale media art projects at Gwanghwamun and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park in 2022.
Regarding THE ORIGIN project, a trilogy media art exhibition named ‘ISAAC, ALBERT, STEPHEN’ was launched. The overall planning and production were handled by WYSIWYG’s media art label VERSEDAY. It was the first experiential RGB media art attempted in Korea. Recently, the ‘ALVERT’ exhibition was reborn as part of CJ CGV’s rebranding campaign ‘Dive Deeper,’ proving WYSIWYG’s differentiated ability in planning and producing media art amid the flood of media art works.
A WYSIWYG representative stated, “As demand for immersive content increases, WYSIWYG is promoting complex collaborations with content value chain partners to carry out various projects in the media art field and expand its new media business. Through this Seoul DDP media art exhibition, we will showcase WYSIWYG’s excellent video content planning and technological capabilities and solidify our position within the industry.”
