Gwangju Seo-gu Fencing Class Sends Support Messages to National Representatives Kang Young-mi and Kim Jae-won
"The Taeguk Warriors are supported by the kind Seogu." Seogu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) sent a message of support to Seogu Office-affiliated fencing national representatives Kang Youngmi and Kim Jaewon, who participated in the Paris Olympics.
On the afternoon of the 26th, Seogu, Gwangju Metropolitan City held a closing ceremony for the adult fencing class (Penlinyi) at the Yeomju Gymnasium fencing training center. Seogu operates free fencing classes by age group, including adult and children’s classes and family classes where parents and children participate together, through talent donation from the national representatives and the Seogu Office fencing team. The adult fencing class concluded its one-month course on the 26th.
Participants in the fencing class said, "Watching the players’ performances in various competitions, I always wanted to learn fencing at least once, and thanks to the Seogu Office fencing team, my dream came true," and "We will wholeheartedly cheer for our mentors Kang Youngmi and Kim Jaewon to achieve valuable results at the Paris Olympics."
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seogu, said, "We hope that the Taeguk Warriors, the pride of the kind city Seogu, will achieve good results as much as they have sweated and worked hard," and added, "We will also spare no support to revitalize residents’ sports activities and expand the base of fencing through the fencing classes."
Player Kang Youngmi is the 'eldest sister' of the ?p?e team and will challenge for the team gold medal at this Paris Olympics. Last month, Kang achieved a fourth consecutive victory in the team event at the Asian Championships and won a bronze medal in the individual event. The individual event is scheduled for the 27th, and the team event for the 30th.
Player Kim Jaewon is the only ?p?e player participating in this Olympics and holds the second rank in Asia with fast speed and hand skills. The individual event is scheduled for the afternoon of the 28th.
