"Seoul Citizens' Will on Student Human Rights Ordinance Abolition, Supreme Court Injunction Acceptance Excessive Infringement on Citizens' Sovereignty"
The People Power Party of the Seoul Metropolitan Council issued a statement on the 26th, saying that the abolition of the Student Human Rights Ordinance reflects the will of Seoul citizens, and that the Supreme Court's injunction approval is an excessive infringement on citizens' sovereignty.
Below is the full statement from Yoon Young-hee, spokesperson for the People Power Party of the Seoul Metropolitan Council
The People Power Party of the Seoul Metropolitan Council expresses deep regret over the Supreme Court's decision.
Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon has not taken responsibility for the decline in educational authority in Seoul, ignored the council's decision as the representative of Seoul citizens, and threatened citizens' policy-making rights through an injunction application.
Over the past two years, Superintendent Cho has taken every educational policy decision of the Seoul Metropolitan Council to court, escalating controversy and conflict.
Superintendent Cho is the perpetrator of the Seoul education conflict, and our students, teachers, and parents are victims of Superintendent Cho's tactics of judicializing education.
The injunction approval to abolish the Student Human Rights Ordinance is an excessive infringement on the legislative branch's policy-making authority.
The Student Human Rights Ordinance concerns important matters related to over one million members of Seoul schools and was justly abolished through democratic procedures in the council, the representative body of citizens.
Superintendent Cho should no longer judicialize Seoul education and should fully devote himself to his private trial.
