Gwangju Seo-gu, Rapid Increase in Hygienic Pests like Mosquitoes... Strengthening Disinfection and Pest Control
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is launching a special pest control disinfection campaign in response to the recent surge in sanitary pests such as mosquitoes due to the prolonged rainy season and heatwave.
On the 26th, Seo-gu announced that the mosquito population has increased more than sevenfold compared to last year, prompting enhanced disinfection efforts in public facilities and residential areas where residents live.

Seo-gu has formed a pest control task force consisting of the public health center and 18 district teams, completing disinfection at senior citizen centers within the district, and distributed about 3,000 household mosquito larvicide products to small detached houses.
Additionally, mist and spray disinfection are being conducted mainly along the Gwangju Stream riverside, urban park walking trails, and bicycle paths.
Automatic pest repellent dispensers have also been newly installed in Barefoot Road (Manbal-ro) and urban parks, which are frequently visited by residents.
In particular, this year, eco-friendly automatic dispensers powered by solar energy, which consume no electricity and can block pest access for about four hours, have been installed, receiving great positive feedback.
Lee Won-gu, director of the Seo-gu Public Health Center, said, “We will do our best to thoroughly prevent infectious diseases transmitted by pests such as mosquitoes and ticks and to help residents have a healthy summer.”
